King’s College London Archives - including the Liddell Hart Centre for Military Archives - hold a unique and internationally significant range of archival and printed sources, ensuring their preservation and providing access to King's students, academics and other colleagues, the global research community and the general public.

The Archives Reading Room is open to both staff and students of King’s College London, and to external researchers.
Opening hours are Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10.00-17.00.

DISRUPTION TO KCL ARCHIVES SERVICE FROM THURSDAY 31 OCTOBER 2024

Please note that in preparation for essential building work, we are in the process of transferring some collections to our ‘OFF CAMPUS’ storage. This means that we will need additional notice to produce this material, so please book in advance and provide specific catalogue references.

From 1 December 2024 – Friday 24 January 2025, the Archives Service will be restricted while this essential building work is carried out.  Our Reading Room will remain open to researchers, but some parts of the collection will not be accessible.

To ensure that the material you wish to see can be produced, we ask you to book research appointments and select material using our archives catalogue by Friday 15 November, 2024. After this date, we will still accept bookings, but some collections will not be available.

We apologise for any inconvenience, but with careful planning and advance booking, we hope to minimise disruption to our researchers.

To book an appointment or for advice about availability of material, please email archives@kcl.ac.uk.

Please contact us via archives@kcl.ac.uk to schedule an appointment and include the following information:

Please also note that where material is held offsite, we will need a minimum of seven days' notice prior to your visit.  Such material is flagged in the catalogue and can be checked on this list.

We offer a remote enquiry service to all our users including requests for the use of quotations or digital images in published works, online or for other commercial and non-commercial purposes.  We will also provide general information about our collections and advice on how to search our catalogue - and invite you to explore our online exhibitions, Research Guides and other resources via the tabs and links below.

If you would like to deposit with us, please provide as much detail as possible and we will contact you to organise the review and potential collection of material.

If you are a member of King’s teaching staff and wish to discuss onsite or online sessions for your students in archival research skills and/or exploring our collections, please email your requirements and we shall contact you to make arrangements.
